The aim of this targeted support is simple:

to nurture ambition, courage and empowerment

AMBITION

Every child should be supported to achieve their full potential.

This isn't about pushing children to the point of anxiety. It's about equipping them with the knowledge that if they work hard, they can succeed in life. ACE Tuition won't label your child as more or less 'able' as another. It's about aiming high and developing a strong work ethic and sense of personal responsibility.

COURAGE

One of the biggest barriers to success is the fear of failure.

Looking silly in front of peers by getting something wrong is the stuff of nightmares for many children. However, mistakes should be championed. We LOVE mistakes at ACE Tuition: they are the pathway to success. And it is courage that helps us to face failure head on and learn from it to become better and stronger.

EMPOWERMENT

Independent, autonomous learners accomplish their greatest goals.

As children become adept at learning from their mistakes, their self-esteem and self-belief strengthen. ACE Tuition sessions will, in part, focus on shifting your child's desire for external praise and validation towards the intrinsic reward that comes from reaching their goals and feeling autonomy over their learning journey.

Meet the founder

Hello! My name is Amy Salem and I'm an experienced, highly-motivated and dedicated teacher. Perhaps we've already met — I have taught in several schools including two here in Harpenden. Teaching is actually my second career; I worked as a journalist for a national broadcaster for almost a decade before deciding that I needed a profession that gave me that fire in my belly. And I found that my passion lay in education.

I have worked hard over the past eight years: maths-lead in two separate schools (one with more than 600 pupils); assistant head teacher tasked with implementing whole-school training and lockdown provision; Year 6 and then Key Stage 2 lead at an Ofsted Outstanding school in London; whole-school project lead shaping curriculum design as part of the National Professional Qualification in Senior Leadership (NPQSL); staff governor; teacher mentor in my own school and others in the Local Authority; and ensuring all the children in my care develop a sense of ambition, courage and empowerment.

Amy of ACE Tuition Harpenden

It might well be a cliché, but I really do feel so passionate about teaching. I set up ACE Tuition because I know how transformative a great teacher can be for a child's self-esteem and their life chances. When they know that they have someone with unwavering belief in them, it is almost like they grow two feet taller. Over the years, I have found working with 'tricky' pupils and those really lacking confidence particularly rewarding. I also like to smash the stereotypes such as boys hate writing or girls dislike maths. Children should feel championed and valued, and shown that if they aim high, dare to make mistakes and take an independent approach to their studies, that they can achieve great things, both in the classroom and in life.

When I'm not tutoring, I love spending time with my family (my partner, stepson, daughter and our loyal and loveable Labrador), keeping fit and also volunteering weekly as a listener with the mental health charity Samaritans
